Why Bungalows

Why Bungalows Are Often Good Candidates for Heat Pump Funding

Bungalows are single-level homes, often with accessible outdoor space for an external air source heat pump unit. Many are owner-occupied and occupied by older homeowners, which makes a simple, low-maintenance heating upgrade especially attractive.

Single-level living

Heat distribution can be simpler to assess in a single-storey property.

Outdoor space

Many bungalows have side, rear or garden space where an external unit may be suitable.

Older heating systems

Many bungalow owners still rely on older boilers, oil heating, LPG or electric systems.

Grant suitability

Funding depends on the property, current heating system and survey, but bungalows are often worth checking.

Funding Explained

How Much Funding Could Be Available?

Boiler Upgrade Scheme

£9,000

Available toward eligible air source heat pump installations in England and Wales.

Off-Gas Homes (Oil / LPG)

£9,000

From 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027, some eligible off-gas homes using heating oil or LPG may qualify.

The grant is usually handled by the installer and deducted from the quote.

Other funding routes may depend on income, EPC, benefits, vulnerability, local authority rules or installer availability.

Funding is subject to eligibility, survey, property suitability and installer approval. National Boiler Helpline helps you check what route may apply to your bungalow.

Eligibility Checker

Your Bungalow May Qualify If…

You own your bungalow

The property is in England or Wales

You currently use gas, oil, LPG or electric heating

You do not already have a heat pump

Your property has, or can obtain, a valid EPC

An approved installer confirms the property is suitable

The installation replaces the existing heating system, rather than running as a hybrid alongside a fossil-fuel boiler

Reassurance

Worried Your Bungalow Is Too Old? It May Still Be Suitable.

Many people assume heat pumps only work in new-build homes, but UK trial evidence shows heat pumps can be installed successfully across different property types and ages when properly designed and installed.

No need to guess — a survey confirms suitability

Older properties can still be assessed

Radiators, insulation and hot water setup can be reviewed

You only proceed if the numbers and survey make sense
